Questions

How much does a new conservatory roof cost with insulated panels?

Up to 12 m² of roof starts at £3,000 fitted. From 12 to 25 m² it starts at £4,000, and above 25 m² at £5,000. The price breakdown shows every size and style.

What is not included in your price?

Just three optional extras: £395 per glazed roof light, £345 for LED spotlights and £295 for gutters and fascia. Any frame repair the surveyor finds is shown as its own line before you agree.

How much does a P-shaped conservatory roof cost?

A typical large P-shape of about 28 m² is £6,300 to £7,500 fitted. The valley where the two roofs meet, plus the extra hips, add sealing time a single slope never needs.

Is there a grant for replacing a conservatory roof?

Generally not. The main home insulation schemes do not usually cover conservatory roofs. The gov.uk energy efficiency pages list what is currently available.

Are panels cheaper than a new glass roof?

Usually, yes. Published 2026 prices for replacement glass on a 3 m by 3 m conservatory run at about £3,300 to £5,200, while a small panel roof starts at £3,000. See the glass roof replacement page.

Do panels fit an aluminium conservatory frame?

Yes. Our panels suit most sound uPVC and aluminium frames. The surveyor checks the bars, ridge and walls before anything is ordered.

Can you fit a panel roof on a bungalow conservatory?

Yes. The same survey checks apply to every conservatory, and our guide to bungalow conservatory roofs covers the points specific to bungalows.

Do I have to move out while the roof is replaced?

No. Our fitters stay outside and in the conservatory, and every other room is yours as usual. Just keep the connecting door closed while the roof is open.

Can you fit a roof in the rain?

Light rain is manageable, because the open part of the roof is kept covered. If it is too wet or windy to work safely, we call ahead and move the date.

How far ahead do I need to book?

Allow three to five weeks from survey to fitting, since every panel is cut to order. For a warm room by Christmas, a survey in October is sensible.

Do I need planning permission to swap to a panel roof?

Rarely. The conservatory stays the same size and height. Ask your council first for a listed house, one in a national park, a National Landscape or a conservation area, or one whose permitted development rights were withdrawn.

Why does a panel roof need building control approval?

The exemption only holds for a conservatory under 30 m² of floor, cut off from the house by external doors, with three quarters of its roof and half its walls see-through. A solid roof fails that test, so approval is normally required, and we handle the application.

What U-value will building control expect?

Approved Document L 2021 gives 0.15 W/m²K for a new roof element. Our panel is about 0.43. Councils interpret that figure differently for conservatory conversions, which is why we settle the spec with yours before any panel is made.

Can I use the room as an office or bedroom afterwards?

Yes, many people do. If you want to take out the doors that separate it from the house, mention it at the survey, because it changes what building control looks at. Our home office guide has more.

How much warmer will the room feel in winter?

Picture a 10 m² roof, a freezing night and a room held at 20°C: 16 mm polycarbonate leaks about 460 W, our panels about 86 W. Our guide for a conservatory that is too cold covers the rest of the room.

Will the conservatory still overheat in summer?

Far less. A solid insulated roof blocks the direct overhead sun that turns a clear roof into a greenhouse. The side windows still let in warmth, so blinds on a south facing wall can help.

Do I need a roof light to stop the room feeling dark?

Not always. The side windows bring in most of the daylight. A north facing or deep conservatory often gains from a roof light or two, at £395 apiece.

Is a panel roof quieter in heavy rain?

Much quieter. The 75 mm foam core deadens the sound, so a downpour that roared on polycarbonate becomes a low patter.

What colour will the ceiling be inside?

Always white. Outside, you choose from the full RAL range, and our colours page shows the popular choices.

How often do the panels need cleaning?

Once or twice a year, a bucket of warm water with a little washing up liquid and a soft brush is plenty, plus clearing the gutters in autumn and spring. Our maintenance guide sets out a simple routine.

Does a new conservatory roof add value to a house?

It turns a room buyers would ignore into one they can use all year, which helps a sale. Keep your completion certificate and guarantee for the buyer's solicitor. Read does a new roof add value.

What do I do if the roof leaks after fitting?

Get in touch straight away with a photo or two. Leaks from the panels, seals or flashing are covered by our 10 year insurance backed guarantee.
